Cambridge Botanical Gardens

Post by Ian-Raymant » Mon May 21, 2018 8:32 pm

Hi Everyone,
As you will have noticed the programme lists a trip to Cambridge Botanical Gardens for Saturday June 16th and I have been tasked with co-ordinating the day.
For those wishing to join the trip I strongly recommend using the Park & Ride service, it is frequent and at £3.00 return, reasonably priced. Driving into Cambridge is not a good idea and there is no parking close to the gardens.

I use the Babraham Road Park & Ride, Shelford Bottom, Babraham Rd, Cambridge CB22 3AB, it is well signposted on the A1307 on the outskirts of the City. See website for more details - www.cambridgeparkandride.info
The bus stop required is Cambridge Railway Station, leave the bus here and the gardens are a short walk, head for Station Road Gate, maps and visitor information can be found on the website. www.botanic.cam.ac.uk

I suggest we arrange to meet in the gardens, as members may wish to arrive at varying times throughout the day - opinions on this appreciated.
There is a cafe restaurant in the gardens, serving a good range of snacks, lunches etc. This could be a suitable rendez vous point.

The City centre is a 3/4 mile walk from the gardens and the £3.00 Park & Ride tickets also entitle passengers to board the bus from the City centre. A chance to extend the trip to take in the architecture and history or possibly some gentle retail therapy !!

If you are joining us then please let me know via the forum, happy to help with directions - alternatively, my email in case it isn't tagged - i.raymant@btinternet.com - mobile 07872 932619.

Jim and I will definitely be going on the 16th.

During discussions at the last meeting it was clear that the 16th June was not convenient to all. In view of that, Colin has suggested that I nominate an additional date for those unable to make the 16th.
I will re-visit the gardens and co-ordinate a second trip on Saturday 21st July, anyone wishing to join me on that date please get in touch.

Look forward to seeing you in Cambridge !

Ian

Unfortunately unable to go as on holiday. I might be interested in going in July but need to check dates to see if able to make it.

I intend to go on 16th. I will park in the Newmarket Road Park and Ride just off the A14 on the A1303, as my route to Cambridge is via Lavenham and Bury St Edmunds. I have used this one before. My sister-in-law who lives in Cambridge is of the opinion that the gardens will be busy any weekend day. I have just obtained a Nikkor 50mm f1.4 D prime lens so plan to use that and my Sigma 150mm f2.8 macro along with my tripod. I think my 200-500mm zoom will not be needed!

Any idea about what time people may arrive. I am not exactly an early starter so I would expect to wander in mid to late morning.

Regards,

Bruce Clegg

Hello Bruce,

I have yet to confirm with Jim but my guess is we'll be there around 10am when the gardens open.
Arrive at a time convenient to you, we can contact on another via mobile when you are in the gardens.

You're right of course, a Saturday is likely to be busy but work commitments preclude weekday shoots for many of us.

Looking forward to a good day, let's hope the weather is kind !!

Best regards

Ian

Does any body have any objections if I invite Rob Price (former member) ? No idea if he can come but know he likes to go on photoshoots.

No objections from me about anyone else coming as this is in any case a public venue.

Just to say I won't be able to come on 16th as I shall be away, nor on 21 July as I am off on a different photoshoot that day! Hope you all have a productive day.

Bruce - nice shot. the flower is pin sharp!

Let us hope the weather forecast is overly pessimistic and the afternoon showers hold off. Enjoy Denmark. I am aiming to get there a bit after 10. I’ll ring the mobile number listed in the initial message when I arrive.

Hello Everyone,

Just to follow up on my post of May 21 and to see if anyone is free for a photoshoot at Cambridge Botanical Gardens on Saturday June 21st. Happy to organise a second visit for those unable to make the 16th June.

If anyone is interested please let me know, arrangements will be as before, gardens open at 10am, suggest using Park and Ride and meet up at the restaurant.

We had an enjoyable day there on June 16th, myself, Jim, Lisa, Amanda and Bruce.
Hope the weather is as kind as before.

Best wishes

Ian

Ooops !

Please excuse the typo - the proposed trip should have read July 21st not June 21st.
Thanks Trevor for pointing out my error.

Hope to see everyone on Wednesday evening.
