The Concept

This is the notice displayed with the Group Display. It sets out the basic idea.
Elsewhere on the walls of this Gallery you will see the work of a number of individual members of Colchester Creative Shots.

In contrast, the ten images displayed here, by ten different members, are a collective enterprise showing one aspect of the activities we engage in as a group. We refresh this Group Display every few months. 

The photos are for sale for £25 each 

Eligibility

All CCS members are eligible to offer contributions to the Group Display. The ‘ten different members’ referred to above is an ideal, which we mostly achieve but not always, in which case we have to include two images from one member to make up the total of ten

Subject Matter

The theme for each GD is determined a few weeks in advance. Ideally it is a theme we have worked on collectively at one of our monthly meetings or group photoshoot outings.

Cost

Unlike the Individual displays, where the individual member concerned is responsible for all the costs of printing and framing, and for hanging, the Group Display is a collective project and as such it is the CCS which assumes these costs and responsibilities. 

Selecting, Printing and Hanging

Size and format: the 10 images in the GD are all A4 size and in landscape format. It is important to bear this format in mind when submitting images.

Members are invited to offer images for the GD by sending them as digital files by email to the GD Co-ordinator by the published deadline. Please offer more than one image if possible as this gives the Co-ordinator the flexibility to constitute a balanced panel in case there are fewer than ten contributors. 

Selection criteria: the primary criterion is to include images by ten different members, rather than selecting the ‘best’ ten images. If this criterion is met, the co-ordinator exercises a judgement in selecting so as to achieve a satisfactory artistic balance in the panel as a whole.

Printing and hanging are currently undertaken by the Co-ordinator, but offers of help are always welcome.

Frames

The ten frames and mounts are reused – it is only the images which change.

Labels

The names of the authors of the photographs included are displayed, each in the corner of the frame concerned.

Pricing

As with all our displayed photographs in the Slice, GD photos are for sale. The price is £25 with the frame. Should a sale occur the framed image is removed by the buyer on the spot and we hasten to reprint and replace it. The Slice takes a commission of 20% i.e. £5. The remaining £20 goes to the photographer, less the cost of a new frame, mount and reprint. 

Refreshing the display

It is part of the deal with the Slice that we do not allow any of our display to stagnate. This applies to both Individual Displays and to the Group Display. The latter is normally refreshed every three to four months. Prints once discontinued are normally given to their authors.
